BANNOCKBURN

The View from Felton Road's Cellar Door

Many of the earliest plantings for Central outside of Gibbston are located in the Bannockburn region, with Olssen's and Felton Road leading the charge and Mt Difficulty close on their heels.

The area can be divided by those vineyards located west of Bannockburn mostly on Felton Road, and those east of Bannockburn on Cairnmuir Road.

The wines to the west are on relatively heavier and slightly more fertile soils than much of the region, and provide a plushness of texture and depth of fruit that has been appreciated by writers and consumers alike the world over. To the east, the wines are darker and show more tannin, generally speaking, but still exhibit a fine array of red and dark fruits, and plenty of Asian fivespice.
